Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Children need hands on activities that will allow them to learn about money and decimals. The tools I am requesting will give my students an opportunity to explore financial literacy. Having games to use at a center will help them understand how money is used.
My students need to develop some background in Financial Literacy because knowing how money is used, earned, and saved is important.
Our school is a title one school located in California. My students come from homes where their two parents work to make ends meet. If they learn how to count and add decimals, they can use these skills in real life to keep balances and track their spending in the future. I teach 28 fourth grade students who are eager to learn. They need hands on materials to learn about adding and subtracting decimals. I want them to have games they can use at centers where they will practice adding and subtracting amount of money buy pretending to purchase items.
My Project
My students need an Allowance game, pens, paper, laminating pouches, and pencils. I want them to have a game they can use to apply their money skills so they can play, add, and subtract using decimals. I can use the color paper to run off pretend money they can use at with games. I will use the laminating film to make games durable for them. The games will allow them to develop their language as well. They will be required to use coin names, currency terms, and increase their math skills making sure they have enough money. They will also need different colored erasable pens and pencils which will be used to do their writing work and explain their spending as they play the games. Practice makes better and playing games about money will give them an opportunity to use money.
I want my students to learn financial literacy because they really need to learn how to add and subtract using decimals and what a better way than to have them play games where they are buying a product and adding the amounts.
I need them to connect to the importance of learning about money to use in their every day life.
