I am very fortunate to teach the students of this community. They are motivated, inquisitive, and really enjoy collaborating when given a project. Over the past year, parents have generously donated towards my vision of introducing STEM-based chemistry and biology labs involving amazing technology that is used to gather data.
The students appreciate the opportunity to use the STEM lab equipment because it allows them to use technology while collaborating and using critical thinking to produce results which help prepare them for the future.
My Project
My students need three different Molymod molecular model kits to help visualize the structures of a crystal lattice, triglyceride, and ice. My honors chemistry and biology students would truly benefit from studying the structure of these detailed molecular models. I often need to refer to posters or pictures online in reference to the intramolecular and intermolecular forces involved with ionic and covalent compounds.
The triglyercide, water, and crystal lattice models will give my students a better understanding of bonding and attractive forces.
I am a visual learner and like many of my students, I need to use as many different resources as possible to get the most out of myself. The Molymod molecules will come in handy when teaching organic chemistry concepts as well!
