My students need a total of 50 Moleskine Notebooks including 27 pocket notebooks and 23 full sized notebooks for a complete class set of Moleskines for our writers!

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Writers seek Moleskine books! It you have ever written in one then you know personally why they are a pleasure to write in! These quality notebooks make writing a special devotion. They elevate the purpose and the feeling of a writer to a status that is beyond ordinary and bring out creativity!
Our students are bright!
They are curious, wholehearted, thoughtful young people who have dreams of becoming great. Our school is an excellent school in the South Bronx. The neighborhood of the South Bronx struggles with pervasive poverty, violence, and being dramatically underserved by public services. Students and their families in the South Bronx struggle to afford books in booming economic times. This would of course include Moleskine notebooks which at $14 a piece are considered an unaffordable luxury. Students in our learning community tremendously value books of any kind. They take care of books and share them as if they are treasures! The students in our reading group are avid readers and writers. However, they don't have great places to keep their writing and to carry with them for when they are hit with inspiration, riding the bus, subway, or waiting in line at the doctor's office. Who can say when they could be hit by inspiration but not have a notebook!
My Project
Students will use these beautiful notebooks from day one! We will use them in our reading club that meets three days per week to jot down topics, insights, and thoughts for discussion in our club. Students will also use the notebooks on a daily/regular basis during after-school hours. These books will become their constant companion, their witness to life's joys and struggles, their testing ground for new words and ideas! These books will become like fields of rich soil in which students will plant seed ideas and later grow them in other formats. These books will comfort our students who are going through tough times as they will be able to write their feelings and observations down to take the burden off through words and expressions. We will use what they have written in these notebooks for our writing in class (selectively). These notebooks will also serve the critical function of keeping students engaged with writing outside of school hours!
This project will make a huge impact on our students!
When a student writes in their notebook at home or at other locations they will begin to self-identify as "Writers". This process is extremely important for academic success and could propel our students to a whole new academic realm of self-motivation and self-actualization! I would buy these notebooks myself for them but the cost is prohibitive for a teacher living in NYC. Thanks for your support and God bless you!
