My at risk students need molds of science and social studies content to create 3-D models for understanding.

Science and Social Studies should be an area where otherwise struggling students often shine due to motivational content. But for my most at-risk students in grades 3-5, both special education and regular students, this is not the case. Our school has created a 30 minute intervention time every day to work with these students in small group to give them additional support for literacy skills. But we need resources for these students that are not worksheet driven!

The students I work with, being in the intermediate grades, have faced their deficits for many years and need motivating, hands-on materials that connect to the curriculum so that they are not being asked to 'pull the pieces together' on their own.

By using molds of science and social students topics, my students will be able to create multiple pathways of understanding as they manipulate 3-D models in an interactive way. Growing mold will help them fully realize the concepts that they are not at this time able to grasp from simply reading a paragraph.

Supporting this project will empower at-risk students to achieve grade-level comprehension of our curriculum and the ability to discuss, apply, and demonstrate that understanding with peers.
