My twenty-fourth year of teaching has been so much fun. My fourth graders are curious, creative, inquisitive, and kind 9 and 10-year-olds. They have a vast range of abilities and levels of confidence. They enjoy challenges and teamwork tasks. The fourth graders are the oldest in our K-4 school. I aim to create an environment where students can work collaboratively, across the grade level, while developing the skills that will help them to succeed. Each child has strengths and areas to improve upon. Incorporating STEM activities, tasks and lessons into our school day will engage the students and further their interests in engineering while promoting team work.
My goal is to facilitate learning while building students' academic and social confidence.
Guiding the students to find academic success and helping each child to develop social skills to help them interact with others is the rewarding part of my day. I encourage each child to take responsibility for learning through perseverance. Providing a variety of ways to present student work and options will increase student academic confidence!
My Project
Using the LEGO Mindstorms EV3 Core expansion set the 4th graders will learn to design, build and program their own projects. Students will be engaged while collaborating and planning together. Persevering and determining how to connect the technic pieces will incorporate geometry math skills. The children will be excited as they learn to code robots and other creations.
The fourth graders will learn simple programming by forming commands and then build on their skills to develop more complex algorithms.
I look forward to introducing the students to the world of robotics.
The students enjoy STEM activities. This Educational LEGO Mindstorms EV3 Core expansion set will help them to develop engineering and coding skills
