My students need these pedometers to learn how to track their fitness levels. I am trying to get the current "technology savvy" kids outside to enjoy working out.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students ALL enjoy coming to PE, but when it comes to knowing what the benefits of exercising does for them, they are all lost. I believe this year could be the year I really help them understand the benefits of exercising on a regular basis and what it does to your heart.
My kids are greatest!!!
I know most teachers say that but mine truly are! I get the privilege of teaching all primary scholars everyday and I wouldn't change it for the world! This next year is a clean slate for us! We are moving into our new primary building and the kids get a chance to really experience the feel of a elementary school.
For the past two years I have been teaching PE at low income charter school. My PE "gym" consists of the kindergarten lobby next to the outside doors. The kids don't complain and really don't know any difference, but this year I am very lucky to have a classroom. With this brand new classroom, I am able to have space to get the kids moving and to be able to share my love of fitness with them.
My Project
During the school year we really try to focus each 6 weeks on a new sport of skill. For the past two years health has really taken a back burner to our learning. But this next year I really want to make sure the kids really understand what they are doing to their bodies and what kind of impact it has on their long term health. The purchase of the new pedometers would really get the kids involved in tracking their fitness levels while they are in PE. It will give them the ability to physical see what they are doing to their heart and lungs.
I plan to start a running club and have the kids track the amount of steps they do in the 20-30 minutes we have practice.
I admire the students will and drive to keep pushing themselves further than most people in their families.
I want to give my students the ability to pursue a athletic background and give them the knowledge to keep a healthy lifestyle!
