My students are part of a very small school community in a very rural area; we are also considered a high-poverty school. Our school has an awesome, small community atmosphere. We care about each other and it is common to hear students asking teachers about their weekend or how their family is and vice versa. My students are hard-working, inquisitive and love to learn. They strive to do their very best everyday. One of the best things about our school is our amazing students!
My Project
Every project I do is for my students, of course, but this one my students have been urging me to do for the last couple of years. The globe I inherited in my classroom is as old as me. Now I don't consider myself old but a lot has happened in the world during that time! For instance the Soviet Union and Yugoslavia no longer exist in the world today, but on my globe they do. Germany is still split into East and West! Although the globe is handy for history, showing where things used to be it does little good in geography or when we get to modern day history. I've taken my students' idea though and pushed it one step further.
This project will not only give us a new globe but also maps that we can write to make geography and history hands-on!
Students will be able to locate and mark locations on the map that we can erase later if necessary. We'll be able to mark locations in history and mark places we've learned about in geography!
