My students need 30 Copies of The Young Traveler's Gift to go along with our curriculum.
So many of my students do not have a love for reading because they have not yet discovered how to choose meaningful book titles that may correlate with their own lives. My goal for them is to see reading in a different light at the end of the school year. I want them to gain a love for reading.
Many of my students come from low-income families who do not have the finances to purchase luxuries like books.
Our school is located in a small town, and our students need to be enlightened by opening up their imaginations to new and different ideas. They need encouragement because they may not always get it in their home lives.
This book is written from a high-schooler's point of view. So much of what we read is archaic to our students because of the time period. In this book, a high schooler is faced with problems that he must overcome. He meets historical figures and learns lessons from them. This is a perfect book for my students to read because it touches on the time period of famous Americans from the past, but it also teaches important moral lessons that they need to know.
Hopefully, this book can become a guide for my students.
So many of them need encouragement and guidance. So much of what they read and are involved in is negative, and this book contains nothing but positive strategies that they can apply to their own lives, while also providing historical background that will cover our time period in American Literature.
