Modern, High Interest Nonfiction Magazine Subscription
Help me give my students current, high-interest nonfiction articles to build their foundational reading skills. I am asking for a class set of a monthly subscription, which will allow students to practice reading "real world" text.
I teach 7th and 8th grade co-taught ELA at Harrison Middle School, located in the suburbs of Pittsburgh, PA. Nearly 40% of our students are considered low-income, with a large population of English Language Learners. Many of these students are lacking basic school supplies, as well as supplemental technology to assist in their learning.
Many of the students in my co-taught classes are limited English proficiency, low-income, special education, and are lacking school supplies.
Despite these obstacles, they are eager to learn resilient. Your donation would greatly benefit these students, and help to make their school year a lot easier.
My Project
These modern, high interest nonfiction monthly magazines will build my struggling readers' "real world" reading strategies. Each month we will get a subscription to a fact based magazine, which promotes active reading and critical thinking. We will use these magazines weekly to promote independent reading and help ESL students be aware of current events.
Please support my struggling readers by providing them current, high interest monthly subscriptions to two nonfiction magazines that will teach them about current world events/issues and build their "real life" reading strategies.
My struggling, low-income students have limited access to real world text and this subscription would allow them to gain foundational reading skills, while learning about events they will face as young adults.
