Mrs. Shaver from Rochester NY is requesting books through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
Help me give my students books for our library that will connect to their Social Studies units. We are growing our historical fiction, non-fiction, and graphic novel sections to support and expand their understanding of history.

Previous to middle school, most of our students have little experience with a library system and we are changing their perspective on our Literacy Room/Little Library. Our students have not had similar opportunities, activities, or experiences that many elementary students get to experience in library programming. We would like to change that in their middle school years!
Our students deserve a diverse series of historical fiction books and books to support Social Studies curricula.
Our school has started to grow a little library in our literacy classroom. We would like to encourage more readership in our 'library' by connecting their history lessons with graphic novels, non-fiction, and historical fiction books. Many of the books selected support the curricula for our 6-8th grade Social Studies units.
The graphic novels will be helpful for our students that need a visual story to connect to their Social Studies lessons. The non-fiction books will be utilized for extension activities and project-based activities, where students dig in deeper to learn a piece of our history.
Our little library is in need of a focus on history!
I am very excited to expand our Non-Fiction and Historical Fiction sections in our little library. Students continually ask for books about people from Social Studies classes. This project will help the range of curiosity in our school to support Social Studies and literacy.
