My students are a very diverse group of children with one thing in common, they all attend an urban, public Montessori school. Sixty percent of the students qualify for free lunch and eighty percent of the students are a racial minority.
We follow the teachings of Maria Montessori to meet the needs of the whole child - physically, emotionally, cognitively, and spiritually through following and allowing the child to guide his or her learning.
I am fortunate to be in a school that sees music as an integral part of the child's development and encourages musical growth and expression.
My Project
My students want to play guitar. The guitars are hung in the back of the room for all to see and it reminds them on a daily basis that they will get to play them some day. I'm ready for that day to come! We need 8 more guitars to have a 1:1 ratio of students to instruments.
I am requesting two small guitars and accessories to meet the needs of my smaller students!
A full sized guitar is often too large for my younger students to hold and play. I need to make sure every child has an appropriately sized guitar so they can be as successful as possible. That is why I am requesting two guitars that fit children 9-13 years old. I am also requesting strings to replace broken strings on our guitars and power strips for our electric instruments.
