Books students will want to read! I teach in an urban high school in the state of New York. We are a high-needs district where our poverty levels are great. Unfortunately with budget cuts, we are unable to provide all of the resources that our students need in order for them to be successful. We need help providing resources to students that are excited about reading and want to take an English elective that is current and to their interests.

I am trying to give my students an English elective that they will get excited about when it comes to reading. This English elective class will be preparing students for their future college English classes. I am picking works of literature that they can connect to, but that have also been on the New York Times Best Seller List.

We need copies of three books: Push by Sapphire, The Blind Side by Michael Lewis, and The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger. These books will allow my students to use modern literature to make connections to their own lives.

When students are excited about reading, they get involved in the piece of literature and make connections on a whole different level. These resources will allow my students to get a first hand experience of modern English literature and how it can relate to their lives.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
