Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am beginning my second year of teaching and want to continue providing anything that I can for my students. All students deserve a learning environment that speaks to how much the world believes in, relies upon, and expects of them.
The students from my school live in one of the highest inner-city poverty areas in not just New York, but in the entire nation.
Many of our students are English language learners who have emigrated from all over the world seeking both safety and opportunity.
All of my classes integrate students of highly variable skillsets. I am blessed with a co-teacher who is licensed in special education and the two of us try our best to meet the many needs of all our learners. My students want to be successful but with so many needs outside of the classroom, their success requires outside support. In this case, I seek assistance on their behalf and hope doing so will ensure their continued success in the classroom.
My Project
This project seeks materials that will provide opportunities for students to create working models of earth science topics.
I intend to utilize these supplies to provide students with both tactile and visual STEM experiences as they seek to understand earth science concepts.
The addition of chart paper serves to provide students with the opportunity to create and share their collaboratively sketched models both before and after investigation using models.
The new science standards, being adopted across the country, seek to make science accessible to all!
I am a native English language speaker and I struggle to explain scientific concepts to many of my English Language Learners. I hope to address this with the provision of physical models. Students learn by actively participating in the process. Struggling students can be motivated by increasing their self-efficacy. This requires the provision of multiple entry-points to meet the needs of all learners.
