My students are filled with wonder even though many come from challenging backgrounds. I want to be the teacher who encourages them to maintain their sense of wonder, to be creative, and to have a passion for science.
When students come into my classroom I want to try to meet each student on their level, many of my kids are kinesthetic learners.
What this means for me is that I need to have lots of hands on learning projects for them to use to deepen their understanding. These students are my inspiration, every day.
I will use these models to provide a hands on learing experience for my students. Evidence from science education research shows that significant learning gains are achieved when students participate in interactive engagement activities. Models provide representations of scientific concepts that can make the ideas more understandable to learners (Huddle, White and Rogers, 2000). By using these hands on models my students will be able to see what normally can not be seen, therefore increasing their understanding of organic chemistry.
Working with models can enhance systems thinking abilities; these abilities are in dire need to remain competitive in the 21st Century.
