My Project

We recently did a modeling project in chemistry that was so successful the entire department has decided to do it in their chemistry classes. These materials will help regular-level chemistry students build models of covalent molecules like diamond, ethanol, or caffeine so that they can better understand bond length, bond angles, atomic radius, and the different properties of molecules. Building molecules that they can't see helped them connect with what they were learning in chemical bonding. These materials will be shared with other chemistry teachers so that all chemistry students get to experience this project. I have also requested 6 more scales that will help give us more flexibility for when to do labs. We currently only have six which means we have to coordinate with other instructors. I have also requested more glassware for the department to replace chipped glassware or glassware that has been broken through the years. This will help ensure all students have access to the appropriate materials to do their labs--which is a vital part of learning chemistry.
