This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our high school is a selective enrollment math and science academy located in a rough neighborhood, but my students travel from all over the city to come here. My students are 70% African American and 25% Hispanic, and over 69% of them are eligible for free or reduced price lunch. They are driven and motivated; they like to explore STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) concepts and to challenge themselves in every way possible.
My students are filled with curiosity and are always ready for the next challenge.
Their willingness to tackle a problem and try new things inspires me every day.
My Project
I am creating mini habitats for students to model natural selection. The astroturf is our substrate that the "birds" will feed upon using a variety of "beaks." This provides a lesson on natural selection that is concrete and fun with a little competition thrown in.
Help me build a classroom that emphasizes learning through modeling natural phenomena.
The habitats I am building coupled with the rich Biozone resources will serve to enrich the student experience and bring life sciences to life!
I have used the Biozone books for many years. These two new AP Biology books are designed explicitly to align with the redesigned curriculum.
