My Students

My special education students are excited about learning and want to be known as "readers"! As a teacher, this motivates me to do anything I can to help them achieve their goals!

Reading comes easy to many children, however my students are faced with severe learning disabilities, which makes it harder to master text and really immerse themselves in a book.

Although they are well below grade level in reading, these students are ready to grow, learn, and be best Fifth graders they can be!

My Project

Having a document camera in my special education classroom is going to be life changing. Students with learning disabilities who are learning to read need to be shown how to use their strategies such as syllabication, chunking, segmenting, and blending.

Being able to use the document camera to display any form of text is going to be crucial for me to model all of these strategies for them.

The need to see (on a larger scale) how to break down the words to decode the text, which will lead to them becoming the readers that they so desperately want to be.
