My students need model kits so they can visualize molecules and model reactions.

Hooray! This project is fully funded
My students attend a large urban high school and come from very diverse backgrounds. Over half of my students are economically disadvantaged, and a quarter have limited English proficiency. In addition, our school is fully integrated.
Despite the fact that some of the student achievement indicators for my school are below the state average, the amount of growth our students are making each year is increasing, putting them on track to catch up with their peers.
This is because these students want to learn and the staff here puts significant effort into ensuring that they do learn.
Chemistry is everywhere; we just can't see it because it is too small. Everything is made up of tiny particles, called atoms. Understanding how atoms combine to form molecules, and how substances chemically interact to form new and different substances can be better understood through modeling.
Providing students with molecular model kits will help to deepen their understanding of atoms, molecules and bonding.
One of the eight science practices is to develop and use models. I look forward to providing my students with the tools necessary to create visual representations that will increase their ability to conceptualize atoms, molecules, chemical reactions and bonding.
