Help me give my students modeling clay that we will use for science to help us understand matter and its interactions, and all the different spheres that make up earth, plus many more!
I teach in a school that is very diverse with many different languages spoken at home. Students come to my classroom and want to learn new things every day. They want to be able to connect with each other through lessons that we are learning.
I want to build a community in the room where every voice is heard and students can reflect and relate to what we are learning in class to their lives.
My students enjoy helping each other and being a teacher to all, which not only supports their own learning but the learning of others as well.
My Project
One of the main subjects that 5th graders spend a lot of time working on is science. As my students and I are given district kits to work on, that only fulfills a few months of our year, leaving 6 months of science that we need to complete on our own. With these modeling clay materials, I will teach my students about the earth, matter and its interactions, and ecosystems. The students will use the clay to build models of the lessons by creating the spheres of earth from the clay, the layers of earth from the clay, and will learn what matter is by having the models to build from. By having this clay and relating our science topics with these, students will receive the hands on learning that goes with science and that will support their thinking when it comes time to answer questions for tests and assignments.
