Our school's Model UN Club was founded in 2013 by 12 dedicated members who met every Friday to discuss human rights issues, politics, and social justice. Last year we grew to over 30 active members and this year we are hoping to continue that growth.
For the past two years we have participated in the prestigious Boston University Invitational Model UN Conference.
In year one we brought 8 delegates and last year our delegation rose to 12 members. This year, we hope to bring 16 students to Boston.
Bosmun gives our students the opportunity to meet, work with, and compete with students from some of the most prestigious schools in the country. Last year, our co-president was awarded outstanding delegate in her committee, and as a result was tabbed to participate in the All-American Model UN Program. This summer she traveled to Beijing, China to represent our country as a member of their delegation. We could not be more proud of her.
Our goal is to make experiences like this a reality for more of our students. Another goal is to compete with other schools to earn the distinction of "Best Small Delegation" at Bosmun. This, believe it or not, is where you come in.
My Project
Last year we spent most of our time in meetings, free-periods, after school, and on weekends, raising money. Through countless hours of work and the dedication of our entire club, we managed to raise nearly all of the money necessary for participating in the conference. We sold T-shirts, planned activities, sold candy bars, and held can shakes. It was time well-spent and money well-earned. But wouldn't it be nice if we could spend those hours learning about government? Practicing parliamentary procedure? Polishing our presentation style? Thinking about solutions for the myriad problems that face our world today?
If we can raise the money necessary to participate in the conference through the power of social media, we can then focus our attention on preparing for the event. Further, we can harness our energy towards the scholarship, team work, and public speaking, that make Model UN such a vitally wonderful and beneficial activity.
No donation is too small or too big.
If you only have $10, pledge it! That is one less T-Shirt we have to sell and 10 minutes a student can spend in research instead of sales.
