Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I wish to encourage my students to read for meaning and to make connections between their reading and writing. One key to the writing is brainstorming. The use of graphic organizers is most useful. I wish to model to students how to brainstorm their writing with the aid of an overhead projector. Modeling is one of the best ways to teach. The overhead projector will allow me to think aloud and motivate the students to brainstorm as I use transparencies to model. During editing, I can copy samples of student work onto a transparency for all students to view, edit, and critique as a learning process as well. This step to the writing process is most beneficial because students get to see their peer's writing which is also a means of motivation. I work at a school in need of more writing instruction. The Board of Education is promoting extended responses after reading literature and writing is a part of the ISAT test. Overall, writing with the aid of an overhead projector will give the students a better writing experience as oppose to teaching the writing process on a chalkboard.
