Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Model Congress is a rigorous academic environment full of talent, excitement and insightfulness. Students are encouraged to create bills based on current political relations and affairs. Despite being in a limited unscreened school in a low income/high poverty school district, we are passionate and professional for Model Congress. The students in the program make up the 1 percent of passionate hard working students who strive for greatness.

Many of the students in model Congress program are looking for something more out of government.

In New York City, there are little to no Model Congress teams. Even though there are events hosting thousands of kids from across the country, you would believe there would be some model congress teams in the area. This program was created to serve the students who have an extreme interest in government, but aren't able to express it. We believe in giving students in the school a chance to participate in simulated government, to diversify the minds of the community.

This school has been yearning for such a club in this topic. Despite our school being centered around software engineering, we believe in leadership and student voice.

My Project

My students need funding for lodging as many of them cannot afford the accommodations. This will only partially cover costs, but everything helps!

This experience will help make my students understand the process of the government, be positive members of society, and teach the students to be leaders with the school but also the community.

Since this experience is Model Congress students will get a first-hand account of how the government works and the role of the legislative branch within the government.

Not only does Model Congress teach students how the government works, but it also teaches students to be leaders within the school and their community. My students have the opportunity to use their voice to back opinions and advocate for their needs. This can translate into the world, because it is what the Common Core ELA asks students to do. Most classes also want students to become the leaders they can be, which this program does because students need to speak up for their specific bill and collaborate with peers in a positive way.

My students last year were able to win two awards, Most Improved Delegate and Best Delegate, thanks to support of the school and donors like you.
