This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are from the North Philly area. Mostly Black students and mostly low income. Mostly curious, but are apprehensive about math and science learning and instruction. My students are energetic, strong, possess multiple intelligences. Some goals for these students are: understanding ways of incorrect thinking, understanding a little about how the brain learns, creating a loving and cooperative environment, developing confidence in their math and science skills, and learning how they already do math and science in their everyday lives to survive.
My Project
For what's felt like the longest time, my class and I have dreamed of having a smartboard. It is finally arriving on Tuesday! This is such a blessing, but brings up a practical issue... where will students write and do computations when they need something faster to work with and more accessible than the smartboard?
This is a problem that can be easily solved with a mobile dry erase board.
Not only will this fix our main problem, but it will provide solutions to other issues such as cramped classroom spaces and providing more access for students who cannot see.
