This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Relax, slow down, be present and create! Live in the moment because change is constant.
Our student body is unique!
The children are competitive and energetic. They thrive on challenge and love rewards. Our school is diverse in backgrounds and is a Title 1 school with 67% free and reduced lunch. Our students are successful and determined. We incorporate S.T.E.A.M. (science, technology, engineering, arts and math) and P.B.L. (project based learning) into our curriculum on a daily basis.
My Project
The mobile resource station that I am creating will benefit children in art as well as any other classroom within our school. It can be used as a reward. The Mobile Tranquility Station will be available for checkout to any teacher in the school to bring the arts and science into their rooms.
The station will initially contain enough water painting boards for an entire class. This element of the station will incorporate science as they paint and the water slowly evaporates.
While painting the students will also be exposed to another culture as they learn about Japanese Sumi-e Painting. This station will have a cd player with calming music and a fountain to encourage a relaxing experience. In class, we will also engineer a sandbox and rake to accompany the station for the future.
Exposure to this station will be a positive and soothing experience for teachers and students.
The Mobile Tranquility Station will make the arts accessible to classroom teachers and it is not messy at all! A little water in container is all that is required. Clean up is just pouring out the water, reloading the cart and inventorying the items. The classroom really can be an oasis for children to slow down, breath and pay attention to detail.
