Help my ESL students have all the necessary resources needed for their English language or reading lesson! My students would like a bigger white board for each lesson so they could all see what I'm modeling or teaching them!
The majority of my ESL students are Spanish speakers that come from families with great financial needs.
About 65% of students at the school where I work are English Language Learners (ELLs). The students that I work with are 81 fifth graders, and they have very limited vocabulary in English due to their learning a second language and also due to having no resources at home to help them learn English.
My Project
As a push-in and collaborative ESL teacher on the move, it is not always possible to find a white board and all the necessary resources in each classroom that I go to to serve my English Learners. I believe that students will be able to see better when I model writing or draw pictures to help them understand vocabulary on a bigger white board. My students will benefit greatly from me bringing a push cart with all the necessary materials and a big dry-erase white board for each lesson in 5 different classrooms that I work with. For some lessons, I need colored pencils, crayons, or markers; for others, I need sets of books for guided reading; while yet for some lessons I need to bring atlases so students can find on the map where the story takes place. All these resources, along with a smaller white board for writing my lesson objectives or learning targets, are very hard for me to bring in one trip from my room to each of these five classrooms without losing much time in transition.
I strongly believe that the ESL students will benefit greatly from having all the resources, materials, and a white board needed for the lessons at hand when working with the ESL teacher.
