My Students

The students at my school are diverse and represent a wide variety of socioeconomic backgrounds. They are talented musically and have made the extraordinary decision to make music an important part of their educational journey.

These hardworking students are dedicated to their craft and equally committed to their academics as they are their musical pursuits.

Their passion for music and performance will be shared with their school and the community at large, as well as around the state of California.

My Project

This grant will provide the opportunity for every student in my classroom to utilize music evaluation software on the Apple iPad. This award-winning software allows students to play along with recorded tracks of literature they are working on in school, access many techniques​ and solo books for developing their own musicianship, record and listen to themselves practicing, use built-in music tools like metronomes and tuners, and record assessments which will be electronically graded and sent to the instructor for approval.

Apple’s iPad is a perfect tool for the portable practice room allowing the student to utilize the software in any location with a wi-fi signal.

Student evaluations are based on a standard, calculating the percentage of correct notes and rhythms. The software will also help teach and assess many of the state content standards for the performing arts.
