This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Remember the first time you went to a museum and saw an exhibit you knew about? I am trying to give that feeling to my students.
My students are all from a low socioeconomic area and it is not often that they get to go places like museums.
They have been given the opportunity this winter to go see Mo William's exhibit. Before we go on the trip, I would like to introduce them to his work. They are not familiar with his work yet and thus they would not get as much out of the trip.
My Project
My students will be able to listen to Mo William's books, such as Knuffle Bunny and Don't Let the Pigeon Stay Up Late!, and become familiar with the characters and stories before the trip.
Along with reading the books, they will be able to begin writing their own stories in the same style as Mo Williams. Exposing them to quality reading and writing experiences.
Getting these books and allowing my students the chance to study Mo Williams before our trip will turn an average field trip into a memorable experience!
Not only will this make a huge impact upon their young lives but will help to expose them to quality literature.
