Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As a special education teacher, I see students push through difficult academic experiences every day. My students teach me the meaning of perseverance and inspire me to be the best teacher that I can be.
My students are hard-working, intelligent, creative, kind, and empathetic.
I feel so lucky that I get to know them on a very personal level because I get to be their teacher for up to five years in a row!
My students live in a diverse, suburban neighborhood and bring wonderful aspects of their culture into the classroom. Getting to know their language, traditions, and heritage is an added benefit to working in this community.
My Project
My students receive support from me in the general education environment and in my classroom as well. They benefit from small group, slower paced instruction with a lot of hands on activities.
A struggle every year is for my students to understand the money unit.
That's why your donation will go to hands on money games that will help my students really understand the concept of money.
This will help them be successful 2nd grade students and successful members of society who understand the value of money.
We will use the Making Cents Money Game and The Allowance game to playfully practice financial literacy. We will use the magnetic coins and dollars to have a visual, hands on way to learn, instead of looking at pictures of money on paper. We will use the cash register in a math center to practice shopping and paying for items.
Your donation will benefit students who need extra support and hands on activities for years to come. Thank you!
