If you have ever worked with middle schoolers before than you know how...exciting it can be. Middle school is a place where kids are experiencing so many changes. Changes to themselves, to their education, to their entire lives. All of these changes can be really hard for them to deal with. As middle school teachers, we have a responsibility to help them through all of this. Our job is much more than just teaching and I love being able to watch and help all of my students grow into the people they will eventually become.
Many scholars who attend our school have not had the same advantages in life as most 12 year olds - Despite that, or perhaps because of it; they have a passion and excitement that cannot be rivaled.
While some days can be crazy, exhausting and frustrating, every morning they come in with a big smile on their faces, walking around school shaking hands, making sure to say hi to every one of their teachers before getting corralled into homeroom.
What I love about my students is their hearts. They have the biggest hearts and if they let you into them, you truly become family!
My Project
This summer MMS hosted a free summer camp for our scholars where we introduced many of them to the game of baseball. Our scholars immediately took to the game, realizing how fun and exciting it could be. For two weeks we spent hours teaching the basics to a core group of 9 scholars. We took them to real baseball diamonds, professional baseball games, and even introduced them to professional baseball players. After all of this, it became clear and evident that MMS Scholars deserves their first-ever baseball team.
Baseball fever is alive and well at MMS!
Through this season, we will not only be teaching our team the basics rules of baseball, but also qualities that they will need to be successful in high school and college. Patience, strength, adversity, concentration, are just a few of the examples that our scholars will master during the year thanks to your help!
The equipment that you Aall help us receive will allow us to jumpstart our baseball team in order to create a fun, safe, and competitive squad for our inaugural season. These bats, gloves, bags, and helmets will be crucial in making sure our players have the best and safest equipment. For many of our players, this will be the first time they have ever received this large amount of quality equipment and I could not be more excited to see them experience it for the first time. Please help me introduce our amazing Scholar-Athletes to the beautiful game of baseball and share this amazing journey with us!
