Help me give my students these mixers so that all learners and abilities are able to use their valuable time in my room more efficiently and effectively. I want everyone to have the opportunity to participate.
I get to teach incredible 6th and 8th grade students. In my class we get to explore and learn about various topics. I like to encourage my students to explore themselves and try to use student interest to drive my class. We cover areas such as finance, culinary basics, career exploration, sewing and textiles. Everyday is a new experience.
My favorite thing about teaching this group of students is the excitement and energy you feel when they walk through the door.
I have a unique opportunity to build strong relationships with my students through hands on projects. Students are always ready to learn new things about food and preparing food. They get to share their culture through food with one another as they learn about new foods and techniques.
My Project
My students have only 43 minutes in my class everyday. These mixers will help my students to prepare a recipe in less time. This would allow me to offer them a wider variety of labs and recipes. I have all types of learners of varied abilities in my classroom. I have worked very hard trying to equip my kitchen labs with items that they will allow all students to be involved in all steps of the labs, as well as items they will use in their homes and in the future.
These mixers will help me to provide lab experiences for my students that we cannot currently execute due to some students physical restraints, having this appliance will give those learners confidence and independence.
Currently we cannot fit some labs into our schedule due to prep time. These mixers will help expand their knowledge and experience in a multitude of ways. For some students that don't have the strength to physically mix things together, this levels the playing field. The labs my students conduct give them real world knowledge and experience with lots of different appliances and ingredients.
