I am a Kindergarten teacher at a Title I school where I will have up to twenty-five students in my classroom. This will be my first year teaching Kindergarten after teaching Pre-K for 9 years. I am excited to make my classroom an inviting place where students can come to learn in a safe environment.
Kindergarteners come to school excited and eager to learn about the world around them.
My classroom is very diverse, and it is made up of students from a wide variety of ethnicities, cultural backgrounds and religions. A large population of my school is from a minority background. Many of my students are from low income families. It is my hope that my students can experiance learning with materials they may not be able to have at home in an environment that celebrates their differences. Having a classroom where everyone feels welcome and loved will set my students up for success. I want them to truly love learning and grow socially and academically during their time in my room.
My Project
Early childhood classrooms should provide opportunities for children to explore the world around them while in a safe environment. Play provides children with the chance to do this. Having a home living center will allow my students to learn through acting out experiences they are familiar with in their daily lives. Not only will my students be learning social skills but literacy, math, and science are easily integrated into the home living area of my classroom.
Supporting my project will let children use their imagination to not only act out household roles but also to use new knowledge gained everyday in my classroom.
My students will be able to apply what we are learning in the classroom related to healthy living, communities, story retelling, sorting and classifying in a home living center. The opportunities for learning are endless. I can't wait to see where their imagination takes them when supplied with much needed educational tools.
