Help me give my students a Ninja Professional Countertop Blender and 3 Ninja Personal Blenders to create nutrient dense alternatives to soda and sports drinks to fuel their bodies, support their learning and create lifelong habits for wellness.
Health, in my opinion, is the most important class students will ever take! The curriculum empowers students with critical thinking, communication and life skills that they will need to thrive and survive in a changing world.
I teach in a Central New York rural middle school which serves a wide range of socioeconomic levels.
I have the pleasure of teaching over 200 7th graders, many of whom receive free or reduced breakfast/lunch.
Despite all the challenges that come with this age group, these kids show up EAGER each day. I have taught at all levels but I have yet to find an age group that is more CREATIVE and ENTHUSIASTIC than 7th grade. My students are SPECIAL! They amaze and impress me EVERY day and for that reason I request your support with this initiative.
My Project
I am requesting 2 Ninja Blenders to supplement my Nutrition Unit as well develop an incentive option for students. I would like to cover how to create tasty yet nutrient dense drink alternatives to sodas and sports drinks. Smoothies has been a recent trend with franchises popping up in communities. I would like to empower students with the knowledge to create smoothies on their own. After learning about nutrition basics, student teams would plan and create their own smoothie recipe. They would then compete head to head in a "Top Chef Challenge" where they would be judged based on creatively, taste, presentation and teamwork. The blenders can be incorporated as an incentive throughout the school year. As students earn "health bucks" for things like perfect scores, exceptional participation or demonstration of character they can trade in their "health bucks" to use the blender to to create a morning, afternoon or afterschool snack.
The donations to this project will help my students use their imagination and local resources to create nutrient dense alternatives to soda and power drinks.
