Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach the best grade ever... fourth grade! My students are unique individuals who come together to create an amazing fourth grade learning community. They come from a diverse background which includes Gifted and Talented students, English language learners and students with special needs.
My fourth graders are amazing troopers hiking their way through online learning obstacles and celebrations for the past four months of school.
My Project
Every Friday, I dedicate our afternoon Zoom time to teach art, celebrate diversity, and strengthen the social-emotional well-being of my students. This special block of time ignites my students' passion for learning!
My students will love discovering new art supplies and techniques to create self-portraits that pop with color and texture.
Construction paper crayons and gel pens will help add fine details to self-portraits. Oil pastels in mahogany, tan, ivory, and toffee shades give students the opportunity to represent themselves in the many beautiful colors that make each one of us unique. As an added bonus, watercolor paper will allow us to cut out our self-portraits and glue them to a colorful background paper.
Art nourishes my students' hearts. Creating something beautiful with their hands is therapeutic and the vibrant colors are pleasing to the eye. Art focuses the brain, relaxes our muscles, and lets our imagination flow. Best of all, when students finish their art projects they will experience a feeling of pride and can brighten someone's day by sharing their art with others.
