My students need art supplies to visually document their feelings through art with paints, markers, linocuts, brushes, and printmaking kits for the class and our own journal!
My class is an energetic group that loves to draw and paint! They are ready to document their emotional growth through mixed media journals reflecting our Journey Program! I want to empower my students through art to manage their emotions in positive ways.
My students may have had difficulty at their previous schools, BUT that just means they get to come to my class!
We are a fifth grade group that loves art, technology, and reading great books. We spend significant class time to discuss appropriate ways to react to stress in life.
We use the Journey Program to travel along toward maturity and awesomeness! Our Journey leads us along a path to self control, mindfulness, and maturity. I would like my students to use artistic expression to document their growth on this path.
My Project
My students will use art to document how they are feeling and appropriate ways to deal with frustration through mixed media art projects based on our Journey Program goals. Our program is a Lord of the Rings type journey, where the students move forward after acquiring the social and emotional skills to help them succeed.
With these materials, each student will have their own mixed media art pad. Each week we will use a therapeutic skill as subject matter and expound on it through art! We will learn to use watercolor paint and other mixed media to document mindfulness. Our self portraits will be done with mixed media and include watercolor and photos taken by the artist as well. We will use lino cuts to visually describe what happens to the human brain when we are stressed, as well as other printmaking techniques for describing feelings.
My students will have a visual diary of their success in overcoming stress at home and at school as we work in small group art classes.
We will learn the principals and elements of art as we artistically study what it feels like to be stressed or what it means to be mindful.
My project will allow students to use the power of art to express themselves in new ways. Their hard work will be put on display at the end of the year art show of the Carriage Hills Legendary Warriors! You are invited!
