The challenge facing my students is that there are several scientific concepts that would be better taught with additional laboratory supplies. We are hoping to get these supplies donated through DonorsChoose. We appreciate any donations that we receive!
Science is such an interesting, fun subject, when students get to interact with their world.
With more laboratory equipment, we could explore various science topics more in-depth.
Our students are in middle school, grades 5th - 8th. We are a charter school, and don't have as much funding as a normal public school might have. Our students are bright, innovative, and have the desire to succeed. They really enjoy doing labs, projects, and anything hands-on.
My Project
I'm asking for a variety of resources to supplement our laboratory activities. For example, the mitosis and meiosis kits will allow the 7th graders to view those stages of the cell cycle through a microscope. Use of the Newtonian demonstrator is an excellent way to show momentum and energy transfer. The iron filings are used to help students visualize magnetic fields. The lightning ball will give students a better understanding of electricity in our atmosphere.
These donations will make a difference because students need to opportunity to learn visually and hands-on.
With such a wide variety of materials being requested, the students will be able to perform many more laboratory activities than were previously possible. Performing these activities and demonstrations will help the students to better grasp the subject matter, and will make science more exciting.
