This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Fourth-grade students are the best age group in elementary! They are old enough to understand what is important in life, but they are still young enough to maintain their innocence. My students are an amazing, diverse group of kids. They come from many backgrounds and bring various experiences to the classroom to teach each other.
My students have a strong desire to understand the world around them through their education and exposure to life outside the classroom.
I challenge them every day to understand what I am teaching them, but also to go after school and keep asking questions, keep learning what you can.
I teach at a Title 1 school in Romulus, Michigan. My wing has three fourth grade classrooms. My students thrive when using technology and hands-on materials. They eagerly face each school day excited to see what their teacher has prepared to challenge and teach them!
My Project
Students will use dry erase boards to assist themselves during math instruction. These boards are used with an Expo marker and a cloth eraser. Students can erase what they have done without it leaving a permanent mark.
Each day during math, students will take out their dry erase boards and follow along with the problems being presented (either by myself or another student) at the main whiteboard.
I then walk around the room and see if students are making mistakes or confirm they are getting the correct answer. With these tools, I can immediately identify a misunderstanding and work with the student to fix the problem.
