My Students
My Resource Room is composed of 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders who all possess very diverse academic, social, and emotional needs. One thing that they all have in common, though, is that they all enjoy hands-on learning activities and become much more engaged when lessons are multi-sensory and interactive.
Some of my students are not independent readers, and I want to do all that I can to encourage and promote their academic growth.
In our classroom, we have several small groups of students who are given specialized instruction for reading, writing, and math. In these areas, all of my students are performing below grade level and need explicit and individualized instruction in order to meet their needs.
My Project
My project consists of two very important items: An interactive dry erase table for engaging instruction and a large metal book display to add to our classroom reading area. Can you imagine what it would look like to see students sitting at a dry erase table where they can demonstrate their learning?! Imagine how welcomed and delighted my students would feel if I was able to feature various leveled books and genres on our new book display rack every month! They would be presented with books that would connect to their interests and ultimately increase student reading.
Student-Centered Learning is the backbone of my classroom.
Without it, my instruction would not run smoothly. Connecting to students' interests and providing them with hands-on learning activities is very important. Each year, I create specific learning goals and high expectations for my students. I strive to do everything possible for them to be successful.
Unfortunately, our school has undergone another budget freeze. Sadly, these two items together cost more than my classroom "budget" for the next 2 years. I need your help in order to get my students the classroom materials that will keep them motivated, engaged, and inspired to be the best learners they can be.
