My Students
Hello my name is Kristine Finn and I am a Science Enrichment Teacher servicing students with special needs in grades 3-8. Most of my students come from low income housing and are classified as having emotional disturbance. However, when given activities that they can be actively engaged in, these students have the opportunity to excel.
Each year, my students participate in the First LEGO League Competition.
This STEM program allows students to engage in an exciting real world learning experience.
Last year was such a success, that I would like to expand the program to incorporate more students. With the majority of the students having emotional difficulties, this is a way for them to engage in a positive learning environment.
My Project
Students will design and build a moon base using the LEGO Inspire and WeDo 2.0 kit. The kits provides students the chance to participate in the engineering process to create, program and build a motorized vehicle that will be the primary source in order for the supplies to be distributed on the moon base. The students design their model and learn basic engineering and programming skills. Students document their work in an Engineering Notebook and will share their work on a Show Me Poster. Students also abide by the LEGO League Core Values which helps them learn teamwork and professionalism.
