Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Biology is vital to students looking to pursue a career in medicine. From the first time seeing a unicellular organism move to examining a specimen that they have prepared themselves, each glance through a microscope is a peek deeper into the mystery of our world.

We are an urban school in an underprivileged district.

Many of our students are interested in pursuing careers in medicine ranging from neurosurgery to general practice. For many of them Biology serves to be one of the more engaging science classes that they will experience.

My Project

Microscopes will help our students to experience all of the wonders of science that cannot be seen with the naked eye. The benefits from examining cells, microorganisms and tissue samples are infinite. Learning to prepare their own specimens and being able to view them using a microscope will give them skills that they will use in college and into their careers.

Our current microscopes are between 10 and 15 years old.

They have had multiple repairs over that time and at this point are difficult to use. We would like to replace some of the ones that have become unusable. These microscopes will benefit a majority of the students in our school as they will be used for both general biology and IB biology classes.
