Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am so excited about this new school year! Starting a fresh year with mostly students that I taught last year is the best way to start. We have great rapport and are refreshed from a summer off…I teach ESE (students with intellectual disabilities) most of which come from economically disadvantaged families. My kids are so resilient and have so much pluck about them, they really push me to be a better teacher.
I could go on and on about each individual student and how they make me smile each day!
They keep the atmosphere in my classroom light and playful with their senses of humor. Even through the school year chaos they renew my love of teaching. I am here to hopefully give them an amazing, productive, fun year of learning because they are the reason I keep coming back every year!
My Project
IPads have quickly become the most versatile classroom tool we can have. My students are so sweet and hard-working but the reality is that they all have some level of social and cognitive deficits. They need more than a static picture that I print out to understand concepts like vocabulary, earth structures, math concepts and other topics that we cover frequently throughout the year. My kids of all levels are so highly engaged by technology that they actually gain independence with skills much more quickly than table tasks or lectures from me! They need a way that they can get hands-on experience with a real-world tool.
Our hope is that this IPad will improve comprehension, involvement and give my kids a strong sense of “I CAN” that they need!
It may seem cliché to request an IPad for the classroom but I have found that using technology is an instant way to improve engagement, comprehension, and independence in my students. It can be used for multiple activities during our literary block (even independently). I can utilize all the apps and websites that we are currently missing out on that increase learning and even keep data on their progress. Help me give them the best possible learning experience possible!
