This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are brilliant, but with 60% of our school on the free and reduced-price lunch program, we are limited financially. As my instruction moves toward project-based learning, our daily procedures will require students to be much more organized, which can be a challenge for teens.
My students come from a variety of backgrounds.
They are athletes, honors and academic students, child care providers, employees, and incredibly gifted in the Arts department. As I mentioned, the majority of our school receives free and reduced-price lunch, but my students fight the stigma that comes with that. They are incredibly hard workers and 100% college bound!
My Project
I'm asking for a variety of resources, all to be used to help students organize and engage in the math material. Students will use folders, sticky notes, and note cards to visually divide material into sections that make sense using graphic organizers as well as develop their own strategies for self-pacing to complete tasks on time. They will use a large computer monitor to do research and create engaging digital projects and reports. They will use measuring tape to explore dimensions both inside and outside of the classroom and how design an mathematics are related to one another.
These donations remind my students that people care about their education.
In a society where minorities are constantly bombarded with news stories about racial injustice and budget cuts in education, my students can get discouraged. Knowing that someone out there wants to give means a lot to these teens.
