This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are great kids that are in an accelerated middle school program. In a very urban area, it is often the case that families of my students have a hard time finding employment and making ends meet. Despite their struggles at home, my students come to school ready to learn and put a ton of effort into everything they do. I am extremely excited for next school year because I get to loop with my kids and teach them again!
My Project
I love the immediate results I get from an informal assessment that uses individual whiteboards. Students can also use these to work out problems and write their thoughts out instead of using scrap paper.
Circles are very important to my students because they get to say what they are feeling without being judged by their peers.
They are something that they look forward to, something that they feel safe in, and something that brings us closer together as a class. With this carpet, my students will not have to sit on the cold linoleum floor to be apart of our class circles. (Although the class photo includes my room with carpet, I am changing rooms next year and will not have carpet.)
Classroom snacks are important for my kids because they can't learn if they're hungry. And pencils are a must in every classroom.
