This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students come from all walks of life financially, various backgrounds, races, and ethnicities, and vary in academic ability. We are a Title I school in a small rural community serving approximately 400 students. In spite of their differences, my students share a love of learning, still love school, are eager to please, and yearn for success--academically and personally. More than half of my students are reading below grade level and are below grade level in math. ALL of them share a desire to improve their learning and have academic success!
My students love school!
They have the best sense of humor and they make our classroom comfortable and safe for everyone to share and be included!
My Project
“A mirror is a story that reflects your own culture and helps you build your identity. A window is a resource that offers you a view into someone else's experience." Providing literature that offers mirrors and windows will allow my students to value and be proud of their culture and lives, but also understand, respect, and value the lives of others that may be different. My students will feel they belong in a diverse world and these books will allow my students to empathize with others.
Books with mirrors and windows help to bridge economic, cultural, and racial divides!
Students cannot learn about themselves until they learn about others!
