Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Allowing students to learn in an environment where they feel safe to make mistakes and grow is what education is all about.
The students who enter my classroom are resilient, hard-working, and receive Special Education services. For some of these students they just require extra time to practice a skill; while for others they just need additional strategies introduced to them. These are students who strive and work towards the high expectations set for them each day and persevere even when it's not easy.
My Project
A student should be able to look within a classroom library and find books that reflect who they are. The titles chosen to add to our classroom library are to promote diversity and the various backgrounds and cultures my students represent.
“Books are windows, but also mirrors.
We often can relate to most any story in some way, however, if we cannot connect to the illustrations that do not mirror us, we will become apathetic to stories.”
We will use these materials as mentor text as we develop as readers and writers. By having various authors and mentor text to utilize we will be able to develop the craft of writing, as well as hold discussions related to character development and understanding the world around us. These materials will increase my student’s confidence in the classroom; which will lead to improved academic achievement and social-emotional abilities.
