My Students
Pre-K is such an exciting group of mixed interests, abilities, and goals. Some of my students learning their letters sounds and are beginning to write, while others are learning to recognize their name in print or how to hold a writing utensil and write their own name, cut, or draw a person. Our group loves to play outside, learn new games, and sing and boogie to new songs. This year we are very excited to be learning our letters and the sounds they make through the Alpha Friends program.
In this class, we build a community around what we have in common and our shared experiences.
We are part of a larger school that celebrates inclusion as well as students whose English is their second language. ! Our school services children Pre-K to 6th grade. I teach in a wing with two other Pre-K classrooms. All together we provide services to over 96 4 and 5 year olds. It can be noisy, messy, and most importantly lots of fun and laughter. My classroom is about building relationships, staying with the group, following directions, and learning in many different ways. We celebrate little wins together every day.
My Project
Working with young children can be a challenge. Personal space at this age is huge. The tables we have in our classroom right now can barely fit our 8 children per small group. There is very little wiggle room and no room for the teacher to sit unless at a corner.
We use our tables for snack, small group activities, art projects and more.
With larger sized tables we could provide more space for each child and the teacher could fit comfortably in with them as well.
With the current curriculum we use there is a lot of partner activities and each group has their own set of materials. Our current table situation can make these activities a nightmare. The children have no space to spread out and often materials get all mixed up and arguments start.
We also do a lot with writing and marker boards. If we had a marker board table, it would save trying to have each child have their own marker board that barely fits with our current tables.
These tables would be such a great addition to our classroom.
