Mints and Snacks: Fighting Hunger in Its Tracks!

Help me give my students mints, cups and cereal to re-stock some of our most used and student-request care supplies.

My Project

With the help of DonorsChoose, I have been able to help meet many needs of my students. At the beginning of the year, I tell my students they are humans first, and meeting human needs is essential before we can do more complicated tasks. This project focuses on the basic need for food. Students who are hungry have a harder time learning, focusing, and feeling ready to learn in school. The cereal in this project will help me break down this hunger barrier. I have a Cheerios station I try to have fully stocked for students. With full bellies, students do not have to worry about food insecurity. This will help level the playing field, creating more equity. The paper cup supply we have to enable students access to filtered water is low so this project includes replacement cups.

Access to what students need will help students feel safe in our classroom environment, seen because their needs are met, and welcomed as a part of our classroom community.

The mints and lifesavers are included because these are some of the most used and requested items. Students feel better about themselves when they are not worried about their breath, hunger, or hydration. This will be a wonderful way to keep students going strong as we continue to do the hard work of learning.
