In order for students to be 21st century learners, we need to provide them with the appropriate learning tools. My students love the opportunity to get onto my ipad. Many of my students do not have access to a tablet or an ipad at home, so using one at schools is their only opportunity.
My students are eager 4th grade learners in North Carolina.
Our school school has a free and reduced lunch rate of approximately 42%, yet have over 72% of our students meeting grade level expectations on standardized tests. We have a very diverse population of students which includes a high amount of English Language Learners.
My Project
Oh, there are so many things that my students can do with ipad minis! Have you seen all of the apps out there that can enhance their learning and make learning fun? I can create games for them on kahoot that directly correlate to our standards. They can make videos on imovie about their learning. They can use an app called educreation to explain their math learning and then we can post it on our classroom website for their parents to see! Students can practice their math facts, they can brush up on reading skills. The best part is that learning can be differentiated for a student's individual needs. No one needs to know that one student might be doing a lower level or higher level activity than another student. The possibilities are endless. The students love to use my one ipad. Twenty students using one ipad does not allow for much usage time, and I know that my students would love to have more ipads available to them.
My students will be better equipped as 21st century learners by having access to technology.
Those students who do not have tablets at home will be able to do the things that they hear their classmates talking about. Students will be learning and practicing skills, but they will be having a fun time while doing it. Everyone likes to have fun!
