This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
The students at my school come from diverse backgrounds. We are in the center of a large urban area and serve about 550 children. I work with students from K-5, training teachers and supporting students though technology education and STEM. This year I am sponsoring two before school technology and coding clubs.
My students need to have more access to technology and the opportunity to explore its applications.
Many of the students have limited access to technology at home. Even at school, most technology access is focused on testing and basic skills. With the Ozobots, I will be able to work with students in multiple grade levels and give them the opportunity to explore in an open-ended way.
My Project
I am requesting a set of Evo Ozobots. Ozobots are mini robots that can be used to teach coding and critical thinking for students from K-8. They can be used with a computer or tablet, but can also be used with just paper and markers.
Critical thinking and problem solving are fostered by open-ended exploration.
So much of our education is preset, the use of these types of exploratory tools can help give kids an opportunity to really explore and experience technology in a fun and memorable way. Ozobots can be used for many years, so this is a long term investment. With this set of Ozobots, there will be enough for 1 robot to share between 2 or three students.
