This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"Tell me, I forget, show me, I remember, involve me, I understand."- Carl Orff. My students love using instruments in music class and enjoy hands on activities. Students at my school are compassionate, creative, and full of life. As English language learners, my students face many challenges in their educational lives. My students also come from poverty and deal with overcoming trauma on a daily basis.

Music helps children improve motor skills, improve self confidence and self esteem, and even boost test scores!

Music is a part of societies and all cultures and communities. Because of music’s ability to relax, calm and heal, my students of trauma can find release in their weekly music classes.

My Project

My students are in need of a diatonic bass xylophone. A bass xylophone is an essential component of an Orff ensemble. These instruments are used to perform harmony by accompanying folk songs. Xylophones have bars that resonate to project a sound when they are hit with mallets.

Orff instruments are versatile, adaptable, and allow for differentiation when teaching.

Bars are removable to accommodate for a students individual skill level. Bars can be removed for different key signatures. The low bass xylophone will help students feel the pulse of the music and help keep our musicians playing together as an ensemble.
