The technology savvy students coming to kindergarten in the 21st Century require more interactive methods to learn and practice the required reading and math skills. These i-pads along with the many free and inexpensive apps available will help to provide this interactive opportunity for my students
My All Day Kindergarten students attend school in a rapidly growing urban community hard hit by recent tornadoes in Oklahoma.
School and family budgets are stretched even tighter and materials to make their Kindergarten experience interactive and hands-on are limited. My students come from varied backgrounds with varied experiences and levels of reading and math competency. But, they are all eager to absorb themselves in any technology that is available to them. These i-pad minis will enhance their learning experience.
My Project
The i-pad minis will provide an individual, hands-on learning experience for my students. Depending on the app selected, these minis can build fluency, comprehension and vocabulary for my early readers or assist phonemic awareness and phonics skills for my developing readers. They can provide counting and number recognition for early mathematicians, or addition and subtraction practice for the more advanced math learners. The programs will provide beneficial feedback for individual students and be enjoyed by all students during centers, small group time and during individual tutoring time.
Come August, my students and I will be ready to move past the tragic events that have affected all of us in so many ways.
We will be ready to have a new beginning with many positive experiences. Your generous donation will help provide my students with an enticing means to learn and practice the necessary skills to become a successful kindergarten student ready and prepared for the world of first grade in just a few short months.
